De Barrera vs. Heirs of Legaspi

Facts: De Barrera was ordered by RTC of Tangub City to return the possession of farmland to heirs of Legaspi in a case for Reconvenyance with Preliminary Mandatory Injunction and Damages. In the RTC level, De Barrera questioned the jurisdiction of the court. RTC maintained its jurisdiction. CA affirmed.

Issue: Whether or not TRTC has jurisdiction.

Held: No.  Exclusive original jurisdiction in all civil actions which involve title to, or possession of real, property, or any interest therein where the assessed value of the property or interest therein does not exceed P20,000. Here, the subject land has an assessed value of P11,160 as reflected in tax declaration. The bare claim of respondents that the value of property is P50,000 fails.
